Preamble

The journey of a believer is likened to the journey of Israel out of Egypt. First was the focus on deliverance from Pharaoh and the operation of the Egyptians. After this, the focus was now on the promise land. It is not all about Satan and cause in this journey of transition. Self can also be a challenge on our journey. The mandate was clear, let my people go, that they may serve me. However, they let distraction come in on their way to the promise land. For this reason, God gave some Apostles, evangelist, pastors etc. that the believers will be matured. Ephesians 4:13. God's greater goal is that the believer will continue to grow, conform and attain maturity till they become witnesses. The assignment of every man of god is to raise believers, transform believers, and empower believers until they become witnesses.

Introduction

The central theme in chapter 20 and 21 is that of glorifying Jesus. See Psalm 148:1-14. All creatures are captured here praising God. Roman 11:36. God is deserving of all glory. The subject of giving God all the glory is demanded from all creature, but there is a dimension of glory that God demands from the church. Verse 21. In verse 20, Paul is talking about ability. Ability is a singular yardstick used to measure the strength of a deity. This God is able to do exceeding, surpassing, all that we ask or think. God’s ability sustains such power to exceed every expectation. The believers' confidence stems from the consciousness of the God who sent us. The church birthing glory to God is connected to the understanding of the exceeding power of God.

Two things covered by Paul in verse 20-21.

i. The glory from the church-

ii. The extent of God’s power

As abundant as this power is, it is according to the power that works in us. The limitations in our result is not a problem in God’s ability. The power of God is real today, as in the days of the Bible. There is a level of power that is required to represent Jesus.  The bar has been raised in the spirit today. The believers need to press for more.

These signs shall follow them that believe. Lord, let the signs follow me and be revealed in my life. Let my destiny produce the results you said will follow believers. My life can’t afford to be unproductive again. Forbid me from lack of result. The world is desperate to see me manifest. Many souls are perishing for the sake of my lack of power to change their ugly situations for good. Oh, Lord, hear me and grant me power to birth glory to your name. Amen.

The power that works in us, not the power available in Christ. According to the power that works in us means God can be constrained by the space, allowance that our consecration, yieldedness, of the believer. The power that the nations will see is the power that works in the believer. The Holy Spirit is the custodian, custodian and the conveyor of the power of God Romans 8:2, Acts 1:8, Acts 19:. A problem in the power of God in the believer could be traced to lack of rich fellowship with the Holy Spirit. Many believers have not come into reach relationship and fellowship with the Holy Spirit. There are two ways the Holy Spirit makes a vessel, a conduit.

Two phases of transformation.

  • Sanctification and renewal: Instant sanctification at new birth and progressive sanctification through the word. Ephesians 5:26. Purifies the conscience and mentality.
  • Enlightenment. Ephesians 1:17.

The believer can’t release power beyond what is at work in your life. The Holy Spirit struggle with the limitations of the space we have allowed him.
