PREAMBLE
An effective teaching ministry focuses on doctrine and the mysteries or principles of the Kingdom in a contextualized, practical, and life-applicable manner. The Bible is infallible—accurate and incapable of misleading—especially regarding the revelation of God, Jesus Christ, the state of humanity, and God's plan of salvation.
The Six Exclusive Attributes of God
- God is eternal – He has no beginning or end.
- God is self-existing – He does not depend on anything for life.
- God is immutable – He is unchanging in His character, though His methods may change.
- God is omnipresent – He is present everywhere at all times.
- God is omniscient – He knows all things; His knowledge is absolute.
- God is omnipotent – He is all-powerful; all power belongs to Him.
The Four Shared (Non-Exclusive) Attributes of God
- God is Spirit – He created man as a spirit being.
- God is Light – As referenced in Matthew 5, He is the source of truth and illumination.
- God is Holy – He is consecrated and set apart, and He created man in holiness.
- God is Love – His nature is love, which He imparts to humanity.
Together, these form the 10 attributes of God.
ANCHORE SCRIPTURES
Acts 17:29, Colossians 2:9, Romans 1:19-20.
INTRODUCTION
No one can fully comprehend the triune nature of God through intellect alone. It is a reality beyond the limits of human knowledge (Acts 17:29, Colossians 2:9, Romans 1:19-20).
The word "triune" means three-in-one, referring to the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit (Exodus 20:3, Deuteronomy 4:35, 39, Ephesians 4:6). This concept is challenging for the human mind to grasp.
In Hebrew, the word for "one" (echad) signifies unity, not mere singularity (Genesis 2:24, Ezra 3:1, 1 Chronicles 12:38, Isaiah 6:8, Isaiah 61:1, Luke 4:18-21). The idea of God’s oneness emphasizes unity within the Godhead rather than numerical singularity.
The Persons of the Trinity
1. The Father
The Scriptures establish that one person of the triune God is called the Father (Isaiah 63:16, Matthew 2:10).
2. The Son
- Jesus, as the Son, is uniquely anointed within the Godhead (Psalm 45:6-7).
- Prophecies about Jesus affirm His divine nature (Isaiah 7:14, 9:6).
3. The Holy Spirit
- The Holy Spirit was present at creation (Genesis 1:2).
- The Spirit is described as possessing divine attributes (Isaiah 11:1-3, Isaiah 48:16).
The Triune Nature in the New Testament
The New Testament provides a clearer revelation of the Trinity:
- Matthew 3:16-17 – The baptism of Jesus is one of the clearest theological affirmations of the Trinity.
- John 17:1 – Jesus acknowledges Himself as the Son and God as the Father.
- Ephesians 2:18, Ephesians 4:4-6, 2 Corinthians 13:14 – These passages affirm the coexistence and distinct roles of the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit.
The Nature of Man (Anthropology)
The theological study of man is called anthropology. There are two fundamental questions to address:
- Who is man? (Psalm 144:3, Job 7:17-18, Psalm 8:1-4)
Man as the Zenith of God’s Creation
1. Man is a Created Being
Man was created by God (Genesis 1:26-28, Genesis 2:7, Revelation 4:11, Psalm 139:14-16, Isaiah 45:11). To create means to bring something into existence from the spiritual realm. To form means to give material substance. God formed man from the dust of the earth. The image of God refers to His nature and glory. The likeness of God refers to His features and ability to function like Him.
2. Man Was Designed to Be a Dependent Being
Man was not created to be self-existent. He is designed to depend on: God – Man's true habitation is God (Acts 17:23-28). Just as fish cannot survive outside water, man cannot thrive outside God’s presence. In God’s presence, we are refilled with life, vitality, and strength (Genesis 1:29). Everything glorious—life, business, or purpose—is a product of God’s presence. Fellow man – Human relationships are second in importance after God. Understanding relationships is essential for success in life. There is no such thing as complete self-sufficiency. The environment – Man is also dependent on his surroundings (Revelation 22:2). The leaves are for healing is an example of how man benefits from nature. The environment provides sustenance and healing (Job 5:23).
3. Man Is a Being with Intelligence
Man was designed with the ability to reason, imagine, and express thoughts. He can articulate his ideas through language, art, and innovation. Unlike animals, man operates beyond genetics and instinct. He has the capacity to set goals and bring them to reality.
Key scriptural references: Genesis 2:15 – Responsibility, Genesis 2:19-20 – Intelligence in naming the animals, Genesis 11:6 – The power of unified imagination, Romans 1:21 – The capacity for rational thought, Ephesians 3:20 – The power of imagination and belief.
4. Man Is a Moral Being
Man has the ability to make choices, distinguishing between right and wrong. He possesses a moral conscience that guides his decisions.
5. Man Is a Triune Being
Man consists of three aspects: spirit, soul, and body (Genesis 2:7, 1 Thessalonians 5:23, Hebrews 4:12). The soul is the spirit working in partnership with the will, emotions, and intellect. The spirit is not isolated from the soul and body but works together in harmony (Luke 16:24).
God purpose for man
1. Relationship with God
God created man for fellowship and relationship with Him. Scriptural references: Genesis 3:8 – God walked with man in the garden. John 20:17 – Jesus speaks of God as our Father. Ephesians 3:14-15 – God’s fatherhood extends beyond the heavens.
2. Manifesting God’s Glory
Man was designed to reflect God's nature, virtue, and character in the world. As bearers of His image, we are called to display His glory in all we do.
3. Dominion and Authority
Man was created to exercise dominion over creation. Scriptural references: Hebrews 2:6-9 – Man's position in God’s plan. Psalm 8 – The honor and authority given to man. Revelation 5:10 – Man is made to reign on earth. Ephesians 3:10 – Manifesting God's wisdom and power.
Regardless of how a person arrives on earth, every human being has a God-given purpose that cannot be replaced. You were born for a reason, and that purpose is divinely ordained.
