2 Chronicles 26:5, 15, 1 Samuel 7:1-14,

INTRODUCTION

As believers, it is scriptural to recognize that our help and prosperity are directly connected to God. The word Ebenezer—derived from the Hebrew language—means "stone of help," symbolizing God's faithfulness and provision.

Help can be defined as providing assistance or support, enabling someone to achieve a goal by offering resources or services.

The Purpose of Help

The purpose of help is to make any task or desire possible, achievable, and as straightforward as possible.

What We Need to Know

Every man succeeds in life and destiny to the degree to which they find help. Some individuals possess remarkable potential and abilities to influence nations but remain limited due to a lack of help. Conversely, others with fewer natural advantages achieve remarkable heights because they receive help. The defining factor is help.

God helps men. God not only has the power to help but also desires to do so. As the Psalmist declares in Psalm 121:1-2, "My help comes from the Lord, the Maker of heaven and earth." God provides help in every aspect of life—be it ministry, personal destiny, or challenges. The Bible is filled with examples of God's help: He aided the nation of Israel, supported Abraham, restored Naomi, empowered Esther, and guided Deborah. (Luke 1:53-54).

Why Do We Need Help?

1. Human Limitation

Even at their best, all humans are inherently limited. This is a natural reality—limited in strength, capacity, and the ability to achieve their goals unaided. As Psalm 103:14-16 reminds us, "For He knows how we are formed; He remembers that we are dust." Similarly, Jeremiah 10:23 and John 15:4 emphasize that we cannot succeed apart from divine assistance and support.

2. Human Factors and Biases

Human imperfections, such as tribalism, favouritism, and biases, can hinder the results of even the most diligent efforts. While the law of diligence teaches that value and hard work should lead to recognition and success, human interference often disrupts this natural outcome. These biases can sometimes make it appear as though integrity and hard work do not pay off, necessitating help to overcome such obstacles.

3. Spiritual Opposition

The reality of Satan and demonic forces further underscores the need for help. These forces are relentless in their efforts to disrupt our peace and hinder our progress. 1 Peter 5:8 warns us to "Be sober-minded and alert. Your adversary the devil prowls around like a roaring lion, seeking someone to devour." Assistance, particularly from God, is essential to triumph over such spiritual opposition.

How God Helps Men.

By showing mercy. God’s help is often rooted in His mercy, which reflects His loving nature and compassion toward humanity’s fallen condition (1 John 4:8, Psalm 51:5). Mercy is defined as compassionate treatment of those in need, relief for those in distress, or withholding punishment from offenders. It is an action born of compassion (Hebrews 4:15). Through mercy, God demonstrates care, provides relief, and offers forgiveness, enabling us to navigate life’s challenges with His support.

Through the Ministry of Men. Men, as the pinnacle of God’s creation, play a central role in His plans on earth. Virtually every earthly activity—be it ministry, governance, progress, or even setbacks—depends on human involvement. Both God and Satan utilize men to execute their purposes. For example, the life-giving ministry of Jesus required human vessels, and Satan's schemes also rely on people.

Finding trustworthy, kind, and capable individuals is a form of divine help, as relationships are invaluable assets. Relationships can be seen as bridges to an exceptional life and even as a currency that can open doors to opportunities money cannot buy. The power of meaningful relationships is highlighted in Romans 16:1-4, where Paul acknowledges those who supported him.

Through the Ministry of the Holy Spirit. The Holy Spirit is the divine helper who addresses our weaknesses (Zechariah 4:6, Romans 8:26). He reveals the mind of God, guides us into all truth, provides direction, and empowers us inwardly to be like Christ. Externally, the Holy Spirit equips us with anointing and grace to serve others effectively. His ministry is indispensable in helping believers align with God’s purpose and overcome life’s challenges.

How to Activate the Help of God

1. Maintain a Posture of Brokenness and Humility

A humble heart is essential to access God's help. John 15:4 reminds us to abide in Him, acknowledging our dependence on His guidance and power. Pride, on the other hand, depletes grace and invites resistance from God (James 4:6). The Spirit of God actively opposes pride wherever it is found, making humility a non-negotiable attitude for receiving divine assistance. Always tremble before the Lord and recognize Him as the ultimate source of help.

2. Pray for Mercy and Help

God responds to the heartfelt cry for mercy and help. Daniel 4:34-37 demonstrates how even a proud king like Nebuchadnezzar received restoration when he humbled himself and sought God. Similarly, prayers for mercy act like a call-and-response system, as illustrated in Jeremiah 33:3, Psalm 20:1-2, Jonah 2:2-6, and Psalm 51. In times of need, explicitly ask for God's mercy to unlock His intervention and favor in your situation.

3. Sow Seeds of Help

Helping others is a powerful way to activate God's help in your life. The principle of seedtime and harvest time governs the earth (Galatians 6:7). When you assist others in their time of need, you position yourself to receive help in return. Matthew 5:7 reinforces this truth: "Blessed are the merciful, for they shall receive mercy." Generosity and kindness open the doors to divine assistance, aligning you with God's purpose of love and compassion.

Response to the Help of God

To sustain the help of God, it is crucial to respond appropriately every time He intervenes in your life.

Thanksgiving

Always express gratitude to God for His help. Psalm 136:1-5 emphasizes giving thanks to the Lord for His steadfast love and mighty works. Never trivialize His assistance, no matter how small it may seem. Gratitude keeps the flow of His blessings active in your life.

Testify of His Goodness

Share your testimony of God's help with others. Psalm 22:22 encourages us to proclaim His goodness before His people so they may witness and be inspired by His faithfulness. Testimonies not only glorify God but also strengthen the faith of others.

Use His Blessings for His Glory

Ensure that the blessings and opportunities resulting from God's help are used to honor Him. Whether it is time, resources, or influence, align them with His purposes to reflect His glory and advance His kingdom.
